Edward Janus is Deaf. He’s a double amputee. He also has cerebral palsy. He is a widower with one daughter and does not leave his house in Northlake, Illinois.

Edward Janus is also a prolific and passionate activist who wants to make sure his voice and the voices of others with disabilities are heard around the world.

Janus, who has been an AAPD member since 2007, loves the technology that allows him to live life fully and pursue his passion for helping people with disabilities without leaving home. Like many, he uses the Internet to conduct banking and shopping, but he also views the Internet as “the equalizer.” Using a computer with an on-screen keyboard that enables him to type with mouse clicks, Janus shares an extensive store of helpful web links and resources through a website he created called Disability Network Connections found at www.edwardjanus.net. He also is a prolific blogger that you can follow at www.edwardjanus.net/FeaturedBlogsEdwardJanusDisability AdvocateandActivist.aspx

He regularly advocates for himself and others through chatting, posting letters, signing petitions, answering surveys and taking polls all online. He takes advantage of LinkedIn, Facebook, MySpace and Twitter to stay connected.

Janus sends this message to readers of his website: “With the help of good people like you, doing small actions that you can take, every day, we will make this world a better place for all of us. And if you ‘forward’ actions so others can help with taking actions, this spreads and multiplies.” He recently shared his website and pursuits with his home-visit doctor, who told Janus he was inspired to become more active about legislative issues for people with disabilities.

AAPD is important to Janus “because it has the power to change laws and really do good for people. I believe people working together can make changes and everyone’s voice is important. Also, membership in AAPD has inspired me to not get discouraged and to keep on fighting.”

Last night, President Obama announced that he’s giving in to the GOP and
extending the Bush tax breaks for the rich.
The "deal" he’s proposing is an "absolute disaster," as Senator Bernie
Sanders said. So Sen. Sanders said last night he would "do whatever I can
to see that 60 votes are not acquired to pass this piece of legislation."
But Sen. Sanders can’t do it alone. I just signed a petition to other

Internet Access for the Disabled that I have been advocating for before most knew about "net neutrality," Since 2005 I’ve writing letters, sending, posting and sharing with everyone Online for years now. Tens of millions of Americans rely upon an open Internet in their daily lives. And the Disabled Community depends on it because if they are homebound, shut-In, live alone and have no means of transportation. All their Outside Business may be done through the Internet Only.

For Persons with Disabilities whom live alone, this means ‘SURVIVAL’

Like myself, I am a permanently disabled, amputee, and confined to a wheelchair. Also being deaf cannot hear on the telephone. All my ‘Outside Business’ is done through the ‘Internet Online’ such as my banking, paying my bill’s, making purchases, filling out business forms and documents, writing emails and letters, looking up important information and I order groceries right to my front door. This is My ONLY means to ‘Outside World’ and Doing My Daily Business and Tasks for running my house.

Dear Friends,
For 2 years, GOP leaders in Congress fought tooth and nail to oppose health care reform. They did their best to keep tens of millions without coverage, decrying any effort to help citizens as "socialist," "fascist" or some other equally baffling "ist." And incredibly, they are now talking about repealing it.
Well, four brave members of Congress are calling GOP leaders on their hypocrisy, demanding they practice what they preach, and calling on them to give up their government-sponsored health care. And we couldn’t agree more:
Write Congressman Boehner and Senator McConnell today. Tell them if they want to repeal health care, they need to practice what they preach, and give up their own government-sponsored health care first.

Congress Abandons Net Neutrality Bill.

We Must Save the Internet ‘from the Greedy Giant Telecommunications Corporations’. We Must Save the Internet ‘FOR Persons With Disabilities and Senior Citizens’. Tens of millions of Americans rely upon an open Internet in their daily lives.  Especially when it comes to the Disabled Communities, Persons with disabilities, Senior Citizens. Which they may be homebound and shut-In and if they live alone, like myself.

For the Disabled and Senior Citizens. This may mean Survival.

I have been advocating for a few years now, regarding legislative and regulatory safeguards that will ensure access to the Internet and other high tech communications technology, for People with Disabilities. And that we will not be left behind. I am sure you are aware of this: “Save Network Neutrality?”  An Internet Blocking and Censorship Bill, called ‘The Internet Freedom and. Preservation Act’.

I have Signed Petitions, Sent out Letters and Posted on many Blogs on this subject. I feel the INTERNET itself is very important. And MUST be Protected and Available for all of us.
